Matt Damon and Ben Affleck star in Joe Carnahan thriller “Rip”

EXCLUSIVE: Here's a package that's sure to heat up the summer market. Deadline has heard that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are set to star in the thriller REST IN PEACE The film was written and directed by Joe Carnahan. Affleck and Damon's company Artists Equity are producing the film and shooting is scheduled to take place in the fall.

Representatives of Artists Equity could not be reached for comment.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, aside from the description as a crime thriller. The project is expected to find a distributor soon, as both theatrical and streaming buyers have shown interest.

Since its launch in November 2022, Artists Equity, founded by Damon and Affleck, has been very busy releasing its first film Air in spring 2023 to rave reviews and solid box office success. Since then, the studio has been producing the documentary The greatest love story never told for Amazon MGM Studios and Little things like thiswhich opened this year's Berlin Film Festival and was awarded the Silver Bear for supporting actress Emily Watson.

As for REST IN PEACEthe package came together fairly quickly in recent weeks, as Affleck and Damon were looking for a new project under the company's banner while Affleck wrapped up production on his sequel to The accountant. The two tried to shoot another crime thriller at the turn of the year, Animals, but planning with The Accountant 2 could not be clarified and that was put on hold. Carnahan is no stranger to the crime genre and has made a name for himself over the years with thrillers such as Narc And Smoking Aces (which also starred Affleck) and given the talent already involved, audiences can expect similar fireworks on this project.

Affleck and Damon are repped by WME. Carnahan is repped by CAA.
