Burglary, stolen vehicles, purse snatching: Lower Merion Crime Blotter

Since June 7, police say vehicles have been stolen in Penn Valley, Wynnewood and Bala Cynwyd. Details on these and other crimes can be found here.


LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA – Lower Merion police have released details of recent crimes in the township.

The incidents occurred between June 7 and 16.

16 June

  • Purse Theft (Ardmore) – The victim stated that while eating at a local restaurant, he left his purse open and unsecured on a stroller and when he returned to the stroller, his wallet was no longer in the purse. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

14th June

  • Vehicle Theft (Penn Valley) – The victim reported his Infiniti was stolen from the parking lot of his apartment complex during the overnight hours. Broken glass was found in the parking lot where the vehicle was located. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
  • Vehicle Theft (Penn Valley) – The victim reported his Dodge was stolen from the parking lot of his apartment complex during the overnight hours. Broken glass was found in the parking lot where the vehicle was parked. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
  • Theft from a Vehicle (Penn Valley) – The victim reported that the sunroom of his Infiniti was broken into and cash was stolen from inside the vehicle. The theft occurred during the overnight hours while the vehicle was parked in the parking lot of an apartment complex. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

12th of June

  • Wallet Theft (Bala Cynwyd) – The victim reported that while dining outside at a local restaurant, an actress was observed leaning next to her chair. When the victim checked, she reported that her purse was now open and her wallet was missing. The victim stated that she confronted the woman, who returned her wallet and two credit cards and disappeared in an unknown direction. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

June 11th

  • Vehicle Theft (Wynnewood) – The victim reported that during the overnight hours the passenger window of his Hyundai was smashed and the steering column was tampered with in an attempt to steal the vehicle. The vehicle was parked on the street in front of the residence at the time. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

9 June

  • Vehicle Theft (Wynnewood) – The victim reported his Kia was stolen during the overnight hours while parked along the street in front of the residence. Broken glass was found along the street where the vehicle was located. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

8th June

  • Burglary (Wynnewood) – The victim reported that contractors observed a male suspect attempting to break open a rear sliding door. When the suspect noticed the contractors, he fled in an unknown direction.
  • Bicycle Theft (Wynnewood) – The victim reported that a bicycle was taken from under the patio and found in the back of the property next to the guest house. The victim stated that noises were heard coming from the back of the property during the night hours. The investigation is ongoing.
  • Trespassing (Wynnewood) – The suspected perpetrator was observed in a building on school property. A search of the area was unsuccessful, but several items belonging to various victims were found in a building on school property.
  • Theft from Vehicle (Wynnewood) – The victim reported that his unlocked Land Rover was broken into and ransacked overnight while parked in the driveway. It appears that this incident is related to the above incidents. Investigations into all incidents are ongoing.
  • Theft from a Vehicle (Wynnewood) – The victim reported that his unlocked BMW was broken into and ransacked overnight while parked in the driveway. It appears that this incident is related to the above incidents and the investigation is ongoing.
  • Robbery (Bala Cynwyd) – Several actors entered a retail store and stole approximately $63,000 worth of designer handbags. As they fled, one of the actors brandished a knife. One actor was arrested and the investigation into this incident is ongoing.

7 June

  • Vehicle Theft (Bala Cynwyd) – The victim stated that they attempted to sell an ATV to a person who wanted to take it for a test drive. The victim stated that the person left for Philadelphia and did not return. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
