Athens man wanted for shooting man who allegedly attacked woman

On June 14 at approximately 1:49 p.m., Athens-Clarke County Police responded to a reported fight and shooting in the 100 block of Hickman Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered a female victim with numerous abrasions to her head consistent with being struck multiple times with a handgun.

During the initial investigation, officers found 27-year-old Tysean Davis of Athens, who had suffered a gunshot wound. Davis was identified as the person who attacked the female victim. He was subsequently charged with two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony, and assault. After being treated at a local hospital, Davis was transported to the Clarke County Jail.

Witnesses reported that another suspect, 28-year-old Byron Smith of Athens, shot Davis before fleeing the scene. Smith was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime. At the time of the press release, Smith has not been taken into custody.
