Revealing the 10 most common crimes in Michigan that result in arrests

Having never been arrested, I find it oddly fascinating to read about what others do to get locked up. I can't be the only driver in Michigan who sneaks past a traffic stop and sees someone being handcuffed and wonders why that person is being gently (careful, head!) placed in the back of a patrol car. Thankfully, the personal injury attorneys at Omega Law Group must share my curiosity, because they've compiled the 10 most common charges that land Michiganders behind bars.

The Omega Law Group study focused on a one-year period, 2021 to 2022, and analyzed at the state level what crimes residents were accused of that would lead to an arrest. Perhaps more interesting than the question of what they were arrested for is who is handcuffed more often, men or women?

According to the Omega Law Group study, there were 322,220 arrests in Michigan between 2021 and 2022. What percentage of those arrested were men and women, in your opinion?

Of the more than 300,000 arrests, 235,124 were men, or 71%. In the same year, 87,096 were women, or 29%.

The most common criminal offense in Michigan from 2021 to 2022 was simple assault, with 53,483 cases recorded. Contrary to the name, simple assault does not necessarily involve physical contact. Even implied violence or the threat of it can be considered simple assault.

The personal injury attorneys at Omega Law Group recently conducted a study to find out which crimes Michigan residents were most commonly arrested for. Using data compiled by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Crime Data Explorer, they determined the top 10 crimes people were arrested for in Michigan between 2021 and 2022.
