Rory McIlroy's reaction and quick exit go viral after disappointment at the US Open

Four-time major champion Rory McIlroyreaction to Bryson DeChambeauThe win and quick exit from Pinehurst Resort and Country Club went viral after he missed a heartbreaking putt on the 18th hole that would have set up a playoff at the U.S. Open on Sunday (June 16).

McIlroy, 35, the second-best golfer in the Official World Golf Ranking who has not won a major since 2014, was seen looking at a monitor in frustration and driving off the course without answering questions after missing a potential par putt that was 41 inches from the hole. The Northern Ireland native had earlier missed a potential par putt from 2 feet on the 16th hole when he led by one shot.

DeChambeau took advantage of this by making a par on the 18th to finish one stroke ahead of McIlroy at 6 under par. The California native began the day with a three-stroke lead over McIlroy, who finished with Matthieu Pavon And Patrick Cantlay at 4 under par.

“Rory is one of the best players of all time,” said DeChambeau via ESPN after his victory at the US Open, which marked his second victory at the tournament and his second major title of his career. “He will win many more major titles. There is no doubt about that. I think the fire in him will continue to grow.”
