Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce before the game between the Dallas Mavericks and the Boston Celtics during Game 2 of the 2024 NBA Finals on June 9, 2024

Shaquille O'Neal took the time to set the record straight after a viral post jokingly suggested that he and former NBA player Paul Pierce had consumed cannabis edibles during Game 2 of the NBA Finals.

When O'Neal, 52, and Pierce, 46, were spotted on the ABC broadcast sitting courtside at Boston's TD Garden, several users on X (formerly known as Twitter) dedicated a meme to the duo, pointing out O'Neal's sunglasses and Pierce's concerned expression.

One of the most popular posts about their performance came from podcaster Travonne Edwards, who captioned a screenshot of O'Neal and Pierce, “The edibles ain't shit,” along with two laughing emojis.

But when O'Neal saw the post a day later, the former Celtic player responded in the third person to clarify that he does not consume edibles.

“Brother Shaq I think they were talking about Pierce,” one user wrote.

Another said: “I should have told Paul Pierce to throw some sunglasses too.”

The Celtics built a two-game lead over the Mavericks during the game, despite O'Neal's prediction that Boston would have no defense for Dallas star Luka Doncic.
