Viral: Woman claims she found insect in Amul ice cream ordered through Blinkit – company reacts

Food safety and hygiene are important issues whether you eat home cooked food, go to a restaurant or buy packaged food. A viral video is circulating on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in which a woman, Deepa Devi from Noida, shows that she found a frozen millipede in a tub of Amul ice cream that she ordered through Blinkit. She shared a picture of it on her X handle on June 15, 2024 and wrote, “Finding an insect in my @Amul India ice cream was really alarming. Quality control and food safety must never be compromised. @FSSAI Publication must take legal action on such incidents, the number of which is increasing day by day.”

On the same day, Amul's official Twitter customer support account responded in the comments section, “We request you to DM us with your address and phone number. Our team will get in touch with you.”

Narrating the incident to IANS, Deepa Devi said, “This morning, my kids wanted to drink a mango shake, so I ordered vanilla ice cream through the Blinkit app. When I opened it, I saw a black centipede on the lid. I informed Blinkit about it. They gave me my money back (Rs 195) and I was assured that they had forwarded it to Amul and that I would get a call or message from Amul,” adding, “No matter how big a brand is, such negligence cannot be ignored.”

People are alarmed after seeing the photos and videos of the reported food safety violation. They are reacting and sharing them on social media. One X user wrote: “Companies only focus on sales figures and forget about quality and its negative impact on consumers' health. Companies should be severely punished so that they never do such irresponsible things again.” Another added: “Please pay attention so that such a mistake does not happen again in the future.”
