Monica Lewinsky joins viral Taylor Swift meme

Monica Lewinsky participated in a viral meme about a new Taylor Swift song, poking fun at a painful chapter of her past.

Swift sings the lyric “You wouldn't last an hour in the institution where they raised me” in her song “Who's Afraid of Little of Little Old Me?” on her latest album, which was released last week. While Swift's lyrics appear to be a reference to growing up in the music industry, fans have shared the lyrics to joke about difficult moments, ranging from Buy concert tickets to remember embarrassing moments in television shows.

Lewinsky shared the lyrics on Wednesday along with a photo of the White House on X (formerly Twitter), apparently referring to her affair with former President Bill Clinton and the ensuing turmoil in the 1990s.

In 1998, the House of Representatives voted to impeach Clinton on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice. The reason for this was an intimate relationship between Clinton and Lewinsky, who was then an intern in the White House. Two months later, the Senate lacked the two-thirds majority to remove Clinton from office.

But it wasn't the first time Lewinsky had joked about her past on social media. For example, she responded to the question “What is your weakest claim to fame?” with a simple “no comment.”

Lewinsky is an activist against cyberbullying and describes herself as “patient zero” of online shaming. Earlier this year, she also participated in a campaign by clothing brand Reformation to raise awareness about voter registration and participation.
