“But we are friends”: Tyla could write a song about Kai Cenat’s viral moment in which she rejected him

During the Breakfast Club interview, “Water” singer Tyla said she was possibly considering writing a song about her awkward interaction with Kai Cenat during her stream.

Tyla is a South American singer known for hits like “Truth or Dare.” In March 2024, Kai Cenat invited her to one of his celebrity livestreams, where the embarrassing interaction occurred.

Kai tried his luck with Tyla by asking her, “Do you want to go out with me sometime when you have time?” Tyla, on the other hand, was a little unsettled by this and told him he “can't do that on a live thing.” Her response immediately became meme material. “Um… but we're still friends,” she said, banishing Kai to the friend zone for good.

This line, “We're friends though,” led to a flood of posts directed at Kai, where viewers began spamming the line in chat. While Kai was dealing with the troll, this whole fiasco caught the attention of Breakfast Club host Charlamagne the God, who brought it up during his interview with Tyla in June.

“Don't embarrass me, guys. I'm going to embarrass myself. I'm sorry. Don't embarrass me,” Tyla replied. She then admitted that she and Kai don't really speak anymore after the incident, but the stream still amazes her from time to time.

During this time, Charlamagne suggested that Tyla should start writing songs about curvy guys based on the phrase, to which Tyla nodded. The host then continued by saying that she should include Kai in the music video and even make merchandise. “I don't know if I'm going to do all that,” Tyla replied. “I don't know if I'm going to make it a profitable business.”

Now, months later, Kai's friends never miss an opportunity to bring up this meme again. Even Kevin Hart, the Hollywood actor and comedian, was on a stream with the record-breaking streamer and gave him a large framed poster with the inscription “But we are friends”.

Despite the trolling, Kai keeps his head up and breaks records. His recent livestream with Kevin Hart and Druski broke the record with 720,000 live viewers.
