1 injured in shooting on Washington Street; VPD continues investigation

Officers with the Vicksburg Police Department (VPD) continue to investigate a shooting early Friday morning on Washington Street that left one man injured.

According to VPD, officers responded to the 4100 block of Washington Street near the Ameristar Casino around 1:17 a.m. after receiving reports of a person struck by gunfire.

“Upon arrival, officers observed a destroyed vehicle and 25-year-old Devontay Knight suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper extremities,” said VPD Sergeant Jerrold Hayes. “Knight was transported by paramedics to Merit Health River Region and flown by helicopter to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment. Knight is currently in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.”

VPD has not released any information on possible suspects in Friday's shooting and said the investigation is still ongoing. Hayes said anyone with information about this incident is asked to call VPD at 601-636-2511 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 601-355-8477 (TIPS).
